howto get opendns auto updating change of IP address on ubuntu/kubuntu 12.04LTS & 14.04LTS

install ddclient
sudo gedit/kate and open etc/ddclient.conf

set it up like this



save that file then open
(while still in sudo)

etc/default/ddclient
set > run_ipup="false"
set > run_daemon="true"

save the file

then run in a terminal
sudo service ddclient restart && sudo ddclient

it will give you the IP details at openDNS

then to check if the service is running in a terminal write
sudo service ddclient status

i checked this after a log off, restart and close down/start up all was working fine ...
