This is an edit of Big_D's walkthrough from another thread - I thought I'd make it easier to find.

Text in green is to be entered at the prompt and should be followed by pressing <Return>.

Make sure you have the latest Kernel and Kernel-source. (If you don't the installer just kicks you out.) You can do this in YaST. See the HOWTO index for help with this.

First, switch to run level 3

Either enter "3" as an option at boot time, in which case the machine will boot straight into RL 3, otherwise you need to switch to one of the consoles (alt+ctrl+Fn, where n one of function keys from 2 through 6).

Log in as root and issue the "init 3" command, this will stop the X session.

Next, change to the directory where the installer is located.

Enter "sh ./nvidia-driver-package.run"

replacing the "nvidia-driver-package" with the actual name.

(HINT: just type the first few characters of the name and press the Tab key and bash will fill the rest in for you.)

Follow the onscreen instructions.

It should install the driver and configure your X session for you.

To double check, you can use the sax2 command:

sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia

where "0" is the number 0!

Once everything is configured correctly, you can restart the graphics session.

init 5 && exit &
