Hey all. My Sony CRT is starting to indicate to me that it's not long for this world. It now takes several on/offs to get it to finally switch on. Sooo, are there any tipsters out there with advice for a good TV for under £500. I'll need freeview hd and for it to be good enough to play my PS3 on hdmi but aside from that there's so much choice (LED, LCD, plasma, backlit....?!?) I thought I'd ask to see if anyone has any major tips. Oh 32-40" would do, ideally looking for best bang/buck really. Cheers all. ![]() |

I would think that as it has 3 HDMI and 1080p with Freeview HD then it will cover your needs for a few years at least. |

Thanks for the pointers guys.
The 32" of the LE32C580 actually caught my eye at around £350, looks pretty good value, as does the 37". The one you link to seems to be better with blacks. I notice at comet though there's the 32" SONY KDL32EX713U clicky Backlit LED TV at £499 but you can get 50-100 trade in. Although the viewing angle may prove troublesome. TBH I don't know the advantages/disadvantages of LED over LCD, do they not suffer from the greying of blacks that LCDs do sometimes? |

You will get better black with an LED TV. There are a couple of different methods though e.g. edge lit and back-lit. I believe good back-lit LED sets can also do localised dimming, etc which further helps contrast and whatnot. To further confuse the matter you can get RGB LED or simple white LED (with RGB LEDs improving colour too). Personally I'd rather have the 37LD490 for £380 over the Samsung for £350 - even if just for the extra 5 inches. I own an LG myself and dont have any problems with the brand. And not that What Hi-Fi is the last word in all things great but they reviewed the Samsung here: http://www.whathifi.com/review/samsung-le-32c580 and the Sony http://www.whathifi.com/review/sony-kdl-32ex713 |

Appreciate those links mate and the LED info. I think it's probably better to get a good LCD than to get a low end LED although I'll have to do a bit more reading. I hadn't thought of looking at What hif-fi for reviews so thanks for the links. |

Also (I Think) if you get a sony then you can control the TV or the PS3 with the same remote |
