Has anybody brought or could recommend a 32" screen (1080p if possible) as a replacement; I'll be running a PS3 and sky on it.

Do you need 1080p 24fps?

What Hi Fi are pritty good, have a flick throught there website and remember you can buy anything they recoment for 10-20% cheaper then the RRP they state when you shop around. if you dont like the look of some of the sites currys or something like that will often price match.

I've got a Sammy and I think its great. Just dont get one of the cheap Curry's 'specials'. My dad did and its crap. If you look up the model number its only on sale at that retailer.

Veato......I work for Curry's and you have totally lost me....what do you mean a cheap Curry's special? The only TV's that we sell that are Curry's 'specials' (DSGI specials) are Matsui, which believe me all sales people avoid selling like the plague.

I would also suggest a Samsung for that size. 6 series would be best, however the 5 series is acceptable. The Sharp Aquos sets are also very nice, as are the Sony W5500 (don't get a V5500) however they increase the price considerably.

Both the Sony and Samsung sets are new models, so the price should come down within the next few months.

I have seen in the past (maybe it was Dixons and PC World then) some models of Samsung TVs and even Fuji cameras (I bought one) and when looking up the model number or even going to the manufacturers website those particular models are only on sale at that retailer. I've also seen it recently with a Fuji camera specifically sold to Jessops too. What I've always found is that these products tend to be shown as really tempting special offers. The Jessops/Fuji camera for example was supposed to be half the RRP or something. It turns out almost the exact same model with one different digit on the end is on sale elsewhere but not a special offer and the same price as the half price one anyway. Basically as these models are specific to that retailer the RRP is exaggerated and put on 'offer.' I'll try to find a current example of you want.

Just to use the camera example Jessops currently have a Fuji J210W for 'better than half price' £150. Its only for sale at Jessops. Fuji also sell a J150W and although a different colour has the exact same specs and looks exactly the same. The J150W though can be found for around £100 without any so called 'better than half price' offer.

Someone who might not be savvy might actually think they're getting a very good £300 camera from Jessops whereas they're actually getting a fairly entry-level £100 camera.

I've seen this with other products such as TV's etc at other retailers.

Can you clear something up for me. I heard the 5 series does not do proper 100hz (even though the Samsung brochure says it does) as the frames are shown AABB rather than ABAB. Someone apparently noticed this when using one for 100hz stereoscopic gaming and had to take it back to the shop.

Anyway its a good TV for the price, no 100 hertz though but i would doubt you could find a 32, 100hrtz, 24fps 1080p set for similar price (not in the next 6 months at least)
Sammy's are good and i think your refereing to when curry's, among other retailers sell previous models cheep "1080p 40" was £1100 now only £600" when actual fact this is 3 years old and have 2 upgrades since then.

I'm not talking out the TV's suggested! Maybe you should go back and read my posts. I'm referring to a situation where certain models are on sale only at specific outlets on 'special offers' although the same model is available elsewhere with a slightly different model number (see my Jessops example) not on offer yet the same price or cheaper. Ye Gods!

Ah I see Veato, my mistake.

I misinterpreted your post there. Yes there are some cases in which Curry's have 'specials' but the only thing different about the sets is the model number. They are the same as other sets, this dosen't happen to often with Samsung though. As you say with the Jessops case, happens with all makes and all retailers.

No the 5 series as Veato points out, no its not 100hz, its just one of the better ones that don't.

Just save up and buy a 55" 7000 LED .

TBH there are doubts as to whether or not the human eye can properly resolve 1080p detail meaningfully at the normal view distance for a 32" TV.

It may be possible for a still image but i think in motion etc. you'd be hardpressed to really tell a significant difference between the two.

I was in roughly the same boat as you when moving into my new uni apartment and in the end went for a higher end 32" model than a lower end 1080p 32"/37" model and i've not regretted it at all.

BTW HobGob, may i ask why you don't recommend the Sony V5500 series ? I thought the V series has generally been near the top for mid-range budget performance ?

Well I've gone for the Hitachi L32VP03U which was £399 at comet and I must say it's not a bad little TV, the only problem I've got is I can find a sky remore code that works on it... and I've been through the lot. Looks like a long phone call to sky to see if they can find one.

Colours on the V seen very washed out to me, the W is much better for colour depth and recognition - IMHO.

Geiseric, aye its not bad for £399 - sounds like a solid price to me.
