My lil sis wants a TV. I figured I might give her my current one and buy myself a new one. I currently have a Sony Bravia 20" LCD running at 720p or 1080i. It has freeview which these days is standard. I use my TV for watching the freeview channel and for gaming on the PS3 (currently on COD:MW2) as well as DVDs and BR discs. Not really into watching sports.

Anyway, the current 20" is a bit on the small side. It was fine when I lived in hospital accommodation which is a bit like Halls at uni but now I'm home, it's a bit small. The problem is I don't know whether to go for 26" or 32" (given those are the next standard sizes up). I would like to stick with sony.

Is there a way to figure out which is suitable in terms of size? I don't want to get a 26" and with I'd gone for a bigger TV and I don't wanna buy the 32" and find it's far too big for my bedroom.

As stupid as it sounds I recommend this to all my customers and many have come back saying its worked great.

Literally find a picture or a mirror roughly the size of the TV and leave it in place for a few days, instantly it may seem large but after a while it will just, 'fit'.

Having said this, I would go for 32, a lot of branded 26 seem to be roughly the same price as the 32s (due to a far smaller production run) and I personally don't think you will see the benefit of 1080p on a 26 unless your sitting ridiculously close.

Hey, if you think you can fit a 37" TV, go for that - you'll soon get used to the size, and even Sony ones are often the same price online as what you'd pay for a 32" in a store (though it obviously depends if you want, say, a USB port or card reader, extra HDMI and so on).

Don't rule out Currys and the like; their online deals are often pretty good (that's where I got my TV, and you know I like a bargain!), and you can pick it up instore if you don't wanna wait

Oh and tbh I wouldn't go with a Sony. They make some damn good sets but they have damn good price tags, there cheaper stuff is just Samsung with a Sony badge and IMHO, worse software.

The LG LH series are good and they have just released a new range (no different as far as I can tell) so there may be some bargains coming up.

Personal preference of course, but both these TVs are in my house - I've got the first (essentially), and my dad has the second. In terms of picture there isn't much in it, but if the ports etc don't make a difference, the picture on the Panasonic is slightly better IMO.

It's card reader only shows pics and plays camcorder movie formats though, not AVIs etc

I agree that you get used to the size pretty quick. When I bought my 42" for the lounge I moved the 32" to the bedroom and when I'm on the bed watching it it looks small

I was in Richer Sounds not long back picking up a Blu Ray player. A couple were having a demo of TVs and the assistant played a clip from Pixar's UP where all the balloons went up into the air. Nearly all the TVs showed some tearing and artifacts (even mine ) but there was a Phillips 32" that looked absolutely perfect. I'm pretty sure it was this one. Its a good store to pop into actually for a comparison of the sets.

I bought this TV from Currys last week for £329. It's a nice set for the bedroom, as it's not too big nor is it a teeny tiny portable.

I don't know how big your bedroom is, but I'd say 32" was a tad on the large side* (unless you ever intend to use it elsewhere such as the living room). I use a 22" TV and a 24" monitor in my room and they seem about the right size, so unless your room is a lot bigger than mine (12'x12') then I'd go for the 26".

*I once temporarily moved the 32" TV from downstairs into my room to try it out, and though the extra screen estate was nice for films, games etc it soon became apparent that it was just too big for the room, was overbearing and overshadowing everything else.
