I was just scanning my Flickr and saw this as part of the 'Interesting in the last 7 days' bit, so I thought I'd share in case anyone here would like to try it out.
I don't have a flash gun for my camera yet so it's useless to me at the moment.

I've seen a couple of these DIY ideas now. It's amazing what people will come up with.

The thing is, I'm still not convinced I actually need a flash anyway. :|

In that case, you probably don't.

I'd actually like to start building my own lighting kit, starting with a strobe. :D

Right on, sista.
Aside from one project I tried earlier this year, I haven't missed the lack of a flash in all the time I've had my D3 - and that's almost 18 months now.
If I've only needed it once in all that time, then I couldn't really justify the cost of one. Which is cool with me.

How about in conjunction with 1:1 macro photography then, Mark?

You know that if I ever manage to get that 200mm macro lens then a macro ring flash would be a necessity.

I try to avoid using the flash as much as possible. More settings and factors to consider when I haven't mastered the rest of them yet. The cost doesn't help either so it is good to see all of these DIY projects around. If you can't buy what you want, then make it.

Doing indoor portraiture of the baby I would be screwed without a flash. I'd prefer not to use one at all but they have their uses.
