Okay, I know the smug Apple users will say that their OS can do this anyway (I know, I have Lion! ), but Microsoft have released a Codec pack for digital cameras, allowing Windows to natively display RAW images from a bunch of cameras: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... x?id=26829 | | | | Quote: - The Microsoft Camera Codec Pack enables the viewing of a variety of device-specific file formats in Window Live Photo Gallery as well as other software that is based in Windows Imaging Codecs (WIC).
- Installing this package will allow supported RAW camera files to be viewable in Windows Explorer.
- This package is available in both the x86 and x64 versions .
- The Microsoft Camera Codec Pack provides support for the following device formats:

You don't realise the benefits of being able to preview RAW files at the OS level until you can't. I tripped over this with the Vista laptop a while back.

Yeah, it was a pain and one of the reasons I ended up getting Lightroom...
It seems to be multi-threading capably - it is using 6 of the 8 cores in my laptop when it creates the caches, which is good news. Once the cache has been created, switching between directories is instantaneous.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Might it have something to do with Adobe being persona non grata with Apple and Microsoft?

Dammit. Doesn't mention support for the G12. Will try it anyway. Didn't like the DNG stuff and lightroom's a bit of a pain.

The choices are a bit.. weird. Looking at the Sony list, they're missing the A33 and A55 but they have newer and older models and cheaper and costlier models. It all seems rather arbitrary.

Could it be that the A33 and A55 use the same RAW as other models and haven't been specifically tested, but may work?
For my EOS, it works fine - whilst the Canon software refuses to load RAW images, because they are not compatible!
