Meh. I've gone for a Canon because a.) I use a Canon at work, so I'm already sorta familiar with the layout. b.) At the price point, it'll do video too which is handy at work rather than hoping someone brings the video camera in. c.) I did succumb to the MP Myth, I'm afraid, dammit. d.) The reviews seemed quite positive.
However, the Nikon D5000 that was the rival felt wonderful in the hand. Feels much more better screwed together than the Canon. I also liked the way you could flip the review screen round to face the body to stop it getting marked. Maybe the next one will be a Nikon, who knows, they do make lovely glass.
I've been eyeing up the Crumpler Nikon bag on warehouseexpress.com as that looks nice too. But I imagine I'll get lynched one day by a rabid über-fan of either brand...

Well, I guess a true photographer keeps their options open. Even so, I think my chosen path is more than adequate.

I'm sure both the two main paths are. I chose Canon because it felt right, had a full-frame option and I could understand the lens range.

When I decided on my first DSLR I was looking at Canon and Nikon options until someone pointed me in the way of a review for the Pentax/Samsung K10D/GX10. With the cashback offer they were running (making the camera £500) along with the reviews and looking at the competition (on price point) there was a massive argument to not buy from the 'big two.' On top of that some of the kit lenses tended to be a bit rubbish and I wasnt in a position to upgrade, yet I heard the Pentax kit lens was built a little bit better with features like a non-rotating front element. So if Nikon are Mac and Canon are PC then does that make me Linux?
