It's time to upgrade my tripod, and I'm looking to go carbon fibre.
Anyone here have any recommendations?
The only one I've seriously considered so far is the Giottos MTL8361B, so if there's any others you think I should see before buying, now is a perfect time to recommend.

Dunno about CF, but I quite fancy a Berlebach 3032.

Again, not carbon fibre, but I'd quite like one of these. (And why would you want to build a tripod out of memory cards, Alex? (8-p) )

So, Tim, enough of this carbon stuff, traditional wood is clearly the way forward, as two of us agree on this.

Chaps, wood would be nice, but it's simply too impractical.
I'm actually not finding a whole lot of advice on buying a carbon fibre tripod. There's lots of information out there, but no actual advice, so I think I'm going to have to do another day of research and make a purchase.

I suspect that for the majority of things, CF will work marvellously. It's lighter than aluminium, so really the only factors to ponder will probably be the use you want - how tall it'll go, how small it packs down, how much it can hold.
And of course, how much you're willing to pay.

One of the big issues with CF is it's not quite as rigid as Alu ones and therefore you need to go for the next model up. It doesn't help when you bung a 100-400mm lens on the front of a gripped Canikonony and point it at the moon (at night mostly).

PS - do you have a Giottos head or will that be new as well?

I have a Giottos head on my current Giottos tripod, but I'll likely be looking for a more sturdy head as I've just got a much heavier lens than any of my other ones.
My current tripod/head combo will be sold after I've got the new ones.

Thanks for all the help folks, (even the wooden ones) but I think I've made my mind up.
Nothing I've seen has really swayed me from my original choice (linked in OP) so I think I'm going to go with that. I'll order the heavier duty head at the same time.
I'll update here when I get them.

One that also necessitates an upgrade to my camera bag, because it's too sodding large for my current bag.
Still, selling my old bag and tripod should make up for a little of the cost of buying new.
