The Scottish Islands are well worth a visit, though, regardless of any similarities to other more northern Islands. Less chance of being caught out by a volcano too.

Excellent photos there, Nick. You did well considering the crapness of the lighting.
Would be interesting to see how you manage with harsher tones as per a normal gig.

Indeed. I've always been fascinated by them. Skye, St Kilda, as well as Orkney and Shetland are on my bucket list. Thanks - I noticed there were several people using flash which I wanted to avoid as I thought it would be too disruptive. Nobody seemed to mind though. I've definitely got the bug and will be back for more at some point, hopefully with better lighting :D

how do you avoid using flash without the pics blurring? I feel forced at gigs to use flash when I photographed donny munro singer, pics still turned out ok but flash use was obvious

I used a high ISO; from 1600 upwards.

Would be interesting to see you how you fare with a stagelit orchestra - harsh light, strong shadows, shiny instruments, lots of movement and big depth of field. Just a thought

1600? WTF. most ive ever used was at a foggy car rally I had to use ISO 1000, oddly enough the pics came out perfect, no overexposure, sharp as hell and no noise exept from the cars of course (off course?)

It looks [LIFTED] when the forum censors it, though.
