I want a good auto, because although I'd like to learn how to use a camera properly, I don't really know how atm.

Heather, again I'm behind the rest of you. I have no idea how to use Photoshop. I do all my cropping in Irfanview and sometimes use the colour correction. That's about it.

I'm gonna pop into town and look at a couple in Jessops

Check back with you later!

Understanding the principles of photography is simplicity in itself....... putting it into practice eludes most of us

If you get the pic right in the camera then you will need no more than some sharpening (if you shoot RAW). I have 3 or 4 post processing workflows depending on what the subject is. Perhaps it's time for a tutorial?

TZ20 (successor to TZ10) is out. Not cheap though.

Linux's TZ10 for £150 looks good though.

Yes, I'm sure! I now have said camera in my possession and it's lovely. Just gonna order a nice big memory card and gorillapod, then I'll post up some pics at some point.

MyMemory seem to have decent prices on memory. They've got a Transcend 16GB class 10 for £17.99 with free delivery Clicky

For around the same money they've also got a class 10 PNY and a class 6 Integral

I've just ordered one of the Transcend 16GB thingies from MyMemory. Looking around the web though, there's a really mixed bag of reviews about it.
I'd also suggest not putting all your eggs in one basket - if it's a dodgy card, and it's the only one you've got with you, you're stuffed.
Why not think about taking 2 8GB cards, or a few 4GB cards?

Oops! I've ordered an 8gig Sandisk Extreme from Play for £17. Had one in the work FZ38 for 9 mths and it seems fine, so didn't think about it really.

I do like SanDisk - Samsung's new line are pretty decent as well, from what I hear.
You'll have a 'puter to download the cards to, right?

I think you're under thinking this - you'll need filters, external flash, lighting setup, pc (or Mac), software (the proper kind), carry bag, calibration kit...... I could go on......

Enjoy your new toy Image

Al ;)
