Nikon's just released another new camera, this time it doesn't actually appear (to my eyes) to be replacing any of it's existing line-up. Details are very sketchy right now, but clicky for all the details currently available. At more than twice the price of the recently announced D3100 I can't really see the value in this over that. This looks suspiciously like Nikon's response to the Canon EOS 60D. As far as I can tell they didn't really have a direct competitor to the xxD line before. |

100% viewfinder and AVCHD look like nice features. |

Yeah, I'm liking the sound of the video encoding too. One thing which this camera has that the D3100 doesn't (that was brought to my attention by Gav) is that this one supports the AF screw for older lenses, which would be a huge benefit (and certainly worth the extra money) if you already had those lenses. Absolutely. I've never quite understood it tbh. The pentaprism on mine gives me 95% which still sometimes annoys me. |

On paper it sits between the D300S and the D90 - the 39 focus points, two SD card slots, the ability to autofocus on older lenses, the extra 4 megapixels, the 1080p video, the 150,000 shutter life and the 25,600 maximum ISO make it more than the D90. Having seen the noise (or lack thereof) of a jpg at ISO 3200 here, it wipes the floor with the D90. I really, really want one. |

Really? I'm looking at the specs on DPReview and the D7000 looks a lot closer to the 60D than it does to the 7D. Max shooting speed, AF (cross type) sensors are quite similar between the D7000 & 60D, the 7D is considerably further ahead plus it has dual processors. The 7D and the D300s are more comparable. Plus in terms of price the D7000 and 60D are a lot closer than the D7000 & the 7D |

Interesting article but my impression is very much that the 60D and the D7000 are a lot closer than the 7D and D7000. It's hardly surprising that Nikon has brought out a camera that has some high end features that look suspiciously like the 7D, they've had a rather long time to examine the competition. Canon basically borked their product line-up buy having the 550D and 7D. Those two meant they basically had to compromise on what went into the 60D if they wanted to maintain that point in the range without impacting sales of the other two cameras, especially the 7D. I'll be interested to see what the EOS 7D mark II look like whenever it comes out. Many expected the 50D to be the last xxD camera given what the 550D could do and without a magnesium or part magesium alloy body and support for CF cards the 60D is far less of a bridge camera and more of a 550D on steroids. |
