I took this with my mobile (3.2mp) last week when I was on my way to the office. It was very foggy and I really liked the scene. So what do you think? What should I have done better (other than make it more horizontal)?

It's very nice, you should be pleased with it. The only thing I can suggest is using a proper camera that'll give you more control over the various settings, maybe even a filter.
Outside that, and without being there it's hard to tell what the light was like or how the mobile tries to cope with light, you could've maybe tried reframing the sun more directly behind the statue, or keep it out of frame entirely. Countless things really, as far as composition goes. But if you like it, that's what matters, and I also think it's a decent snap.

Thanks I have tried one with the sun directly behind but it was too sharp so the head has disappeared: I was hoping for more shadows thrown by those trees the on right to be captured on the fog itself but I guess I would need a proper camera for that. And maybe the grey of the fog would have been grey-er without patches of red. Would longer exposure time do that for me in this picture?

Couple of thoughts - try knocking it into B&W. That's certainly cure your patches of red, and as the strength of the image is in the composition and light, the colour's almost irrelevant. I suspect the red effect is a product of the lens. It's a fairly noisy image - looks like the phone is struggling to deal with the contrast from the sun and still capture something of the darker regions. A longer exposure would solve that, but you'd have to juggle the strength of the light to make sure your highlights weren't blowing out some of the detail. As you can see, in that second example, the lion's head has been lost. Sadly, I think with a digital camera, you'll struggle to get the detail of the lion's head and retain the detail in the darker regions. With a good film stock, you might get away with both. So, you're other option would be trying the HDR route.

Yeah, yeah. So what!? The fact that you celebrate this like you won a league or something (I only guess, as I have never seen you winning the league) and it only goes to show how small your club is. I am really sorry that I can't relate to what you're feeling as we beat you all time, home or away. And you haven't beat us at our place for 17 years so by the law of averages it was bound to happen at some point. Oh, and it is not that you beat us, it was more we lost the interest after 45 minutes and you caught us out. So enjoy your precious win, we have bigger things to worry about than some bunch with cocks on their shirts...

Depending on the camera it could also be sensor flare but that's less common these days. That said it's more likely to be the glass. As for the b&w I've tried it and it works great. Something I tried was I took converted the b&w image back to RGB and added a tiny touch of hue 43 to warm it up a bit - a romantic feel Either that or a smidge of cyan to give it a nice cold, wintry feel Indeed. I tried a quick despeckle but the results weren't overly encouraging - the SNR isn't high enough and the gravel looks like noise to the filter.

Admittedly not the best few days to be an Arsenal fan. Yes we've never won the modern PL and yes it's our first season in CL but the shoe is on the other foot a little bit right now (if only short lived) and we're quite rightly using it to kick you where it hurts for once

Yes, of course. Sorry, I haven't seen your post here when I was replying to veato... In B&W: It is still pretty noisy but at least the red patches have disappeared...
