A couple of days ago I had the chance to take a few unusual pics. As it happened I contacted a few peeps and the phones suddenly went ballistic. The pic itself is backlit, taken at night, wrong ISO, no tripod, etc, etc. I could have taken a better pic but it was the one the media wanted - right place, right time.

The story was a Tornado jet had ran off the runway and both crew ejected. I got to the airfield and just caught the helicopter departing to hospital with the crew (both safe and apart from the normal ejection injuries, relatively unscathed) but no pics of that. So I photographed the scene, posted my shots on an aviation forum and was advised to call the press. The pic was used here and on the news bulletins, STV used it and I've had requests from a few newspapers. Here's a crop of the actual pic:

And one of the general scene the next day:

The daylight pics have been requested by the press so I'm letting the PR officer at work negotiate on my behalf. It's my first foray into selling to the media and although I've made some cash out of it, I could have made much more (apparently).

Good work!
Just goes to show that the right pic from the right place at the right time does happen from time to time!
Fingers crossed for the meeja pay out. :)

Yep. Meeja outlets don't care about the technicalities of the image just as long as it looks how they want it to.
Nice job on getting what they wanted.
Also good to know no one was seriously hurt in the incident.
Thanks for sharing.
