Woops ;)

Ordered one tonight, not going to have a huge amount of money due to moving to a new place (car insurance will be shooting up :( among other extra costs) so figured I'll get one while I have a bit of extra cash to splash

Went for a Minolta 50mm F1.7, I was looking at the Sony version, but it was £20 more at least and was slower and didn't seem to have as good reviews, ended up spending £80 inc delivery (I know some go for £70ish, but it's from an actual camera shop and comes with both caps which can be a pain to get separately)

Can't wait to try it out with some proper manual focussing :)

Nice one fella.

Talking about manual focusing I dont do it all that often and sometimes when I do I end up with a less than pin sharp photo. The thing is though my first ever DSLR (Pentax P30T) was manual only. I got on with that fine so I wonder what the difference is. I'm thinking maybe the focusing screen. I liked those split view jobbies (technical name ;) ) and am sure I'd use manual more if I had one on the DSLR.

I hope you like your f/1.7 as much as I like my f/1.4.

If I like it I might be tempted to pick up a f/1.2 :P (Minolta had an old MD Rokkor lens that can be adapted apparently, the f/1.4 is pretty cheap just a case of being inclined when I have more money to try out other lenses with adapters)

Minolta Rokkor f/1.4 is about £50 with the cost of the adapter kit on top judging by ebay prices, a f/1.2 is about £500 for a good quality one as it's apparently very rare http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Minolta-MD-Rokkor ... 5d2e280f03
The AF 1.4 is closer to £150 used, and around £300 new from memory, don't think they do a faster one without getting into the uber money

That said if someone offered me one of these I wouldnt say no:

Yes. It puzzled me then and it puzzled me even more after I got my one.
What's changed your opinion on it now?
