SWMBO has "suggested" that I get a new camera bag for our trip abroad soon. I have a Nikon D90, and all im plannig to take is the kit lens and a 50mm. From what she is suggesting, I believe (and I know this is dangerous) she wants to be able to use the bag to put other stuff in as well as the camera, so a backpack style is more prefered. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Get two bags, one for the camera and one for her stuff. Otherwise you'll be the one carrying everything all day. I have a Lowepro that fits a D90 with 18-105mm kit lens or 50mm lens perfectly. Whichever one isn't on the camera can go in her bag.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I've always been a sucker for Crumpler bags. Not had a backpack though (mine are all over the shoulder types) but I wouldn't mind something like this

Nice thing about the Crumplers is that they don't shout 'STEAL ME! I'm a camera bag!'

The lowepro website has a "configurator" type thing that suggests bags based on equipment you want to carry and then you can look at appropriate sizes.

Thank you all for your advice/input. I have just taken possession of a lowepro Fastpack 350. It enables me to take my gear and act as general pack mule for my holibobs.

I'll add a vote for Lowepro, I bought a Slingbag when I was in the UK. Excellent piece of kit and way you can swing it into position, so that the camera pocket is facing up and you can pull the camera strap out and over your neck, before you remove the camera itself from the bag is brilliant.

I've got both Tamrac and Lowepro backpacks and I like them both. Agree with Dave that the Slingshot is a great walkabout bag.
