Whilst in town today, I went into Jessops. Picked up the 60D and had a play around with it. Focussing was great. Controls were easy to use. Felt very heavy though - reckon I couldn't carry around with it all day without a decent backpack and tripod. Looked at the price tag £1500! ![]() The 60D had the hinged screen that I'm used to on the G12. Both cameras had the ability to switch from viewfinder to Live View which was a big plus for me. The 60D had some weird pancake lens fitted that couldn't focus any closer than about 2ft away. But the 7D had so many independent controls and was so much easier to use and adapt to. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

So what you're saying is that you looked at two cameras from the same company and it turns out that the more expensive model was, (in your opinion*) the better of the two? ![]() Who'd have thought it? ![]() * The in your opinion part was purely for the benefit of any passing pedants, and was, in no way, a slight on your judgement. ![]() |

60D is gay. Spent hours trying to persuade myself it was a worthy compromise. It isn't. Gutted for you! |

As above, I was seriously toying with the ideal of the 60D. Wanted to try it out in the shops. Because I've tried out a better camera, I'm now unfairly biased against it. |

I have edited the thread title and reply titles. I really don't think the original title was even relevant or necessary. |

Riddle me this, Batman... There is the Canon EOS 5D, and 5D MKII and the 5D MKIII - a full frame camera. We now have the EOS 6D - a development of the 5D, again full frame. So what’s the EOS 7D? It’s not full frame. But the numbering scheme suggests its a development of the 6D. What the FCUK is going on? |

Well, I think it goes like this: Pro and semi-pro cameras generally use the nD and nnD moniker. The top of the range continues to be the 1D series, with 5D being the entry level FF body - until the 6D was announced. The 6D seems to have lower specs than the 5D series in order to reduce the price a little. The 7D fits in at the lower end of the nD range: remember there are APS-C sensors in the 1D range as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see further APS-C bodies with slightly lower specs than the 7D being branded as 8D and 9D. Interestingly, there's no 70D in the scheme yet. |

I was surprised at the 6D name too. I can only imagine that the 7D would be superseded by the 8D. Some of these naming rules are ridiculous. In any other place you'd expect 1000D to be better than 1D. My heart is torn between the 7D and the 5Dmk2/3 now. Just been on the 'bay checking out old mk2s. |

The numbers make sense to me when I look at it like this 7D - Top spec APS-C v 6D - Full frame intro v 5D - Full frame pro v 1D - Full frame 'who's the Daddy?' Smaller number - more expensive camera! |

Actually that does make sense to me. Thanks! |

You're quite right - http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/Digital_SLR/EOS_1Dx/ I don't really get the hang up about what's full frame and what's not, tbh. |

TBH I've felt the same. I understand full frame means larger sensors and hence greater sensitivity and something called "pop" but surely the aspect would mean you'd need to edit each pic before you could print on 6"x4" photopaper? |
