looking for some advice on what software to use. I usually only do some light editing of my photos (not because they are that fantastic ) and have been using ufraw and gimp but I am now looking for something a bit more user friendly and maybe extend my meagre abilities post taking the picture also maybe better organising the end products. So what I am asking is from your perspective what would be a better choice to use?

I'd agree. I've tried most of the free photo editing (as oppose to 'art making') packages that'll run under windows 7 and Paint.Net is as good as the rest in terms of functionality and has, to me anyway, the easiest interface to use.
