HI,
Looks like Apple are not going to be supporting RAW files from Leica D-Lux 4 any time soon. It‘s not listed in the OS X 10.5.7 upgrade.
Clicky

I’ll check this when I do the upgrade, but unless it’s the same as the M8.2, I have a feeling that it’s not on the table.

I know that Adobe DO support it. So, folks, what’s it like moving from Aperture to LightRoom? Does LR import your Aperture library?

If this is the route that you are definitely going to go down, then first and foremost backup your Aperture catalogue.
Is there not a fully featured Lightroom demo that you can download and try the import?

I understand the biggest problem is translating the adjustment data to LR's XMP format.

Apple, unsurprisingly, don't use a truly standard format for the sidecar files, or whatever they're called.

Have a looksy at here or here for some clues, although no-one seems to be certain on the best way, but basically it seems you need to export masters with the sidecars and then re-import into LR. In LR I use DNG RAW files, with the edit data embedded in them.

I’ve downloaded the demo. I was just wondering if anyone had tried this.

I personally think Aperture is loads better than Lightroom and I have them both. Lightroom on PC, but used it on a Mac its more or less the same. I think if you have used Aperute, Lightroom will annoy you.

I found the opposite. As clean and polished as Aperture is, I found it didn't do half as much as Lightroom, and wasn't as intuitive (surprisingly for Apple software). It's possible that I just wasn't aware of how to do the stuff I wanted, but then again, I didn't take a course in Lightroom either, and didn't have any problems learning how to use it.

LR2 has some features I hope Apple will add to Aperture 2.5 or 3.

That said, there is a learning curve with Aperture. I'm still learning stuff and I've been running it for some time now. It's annoyingly buggy at times, and will go into slowmo at the drop of a hat, quickly followed by a crash, but at other times it's dreamy.

I find the mark of good software is it will make you smile occasionally. Aperture still does that for me - in spite of the crashes.

The thing is, I like Aperture. It’s Apple’s failure to support my camera which is asking me look at Lightroom. There is RAW processing software which came with the camera, but it’s not great and I don’t like the interface. It does output DNGs, which I have tried, and Aperture reads those. There are odd artefacts at the images’ edges though.

*Googles DNG - finds something interesting*

Seems that Adobe do a DNG converter, and it supports my camera. Maybe this is all I need.

I’ll dig out a couple of Leica RAWS and see what happens.

EDIT:
Same problem - Aperture doesn’t like the DNG from Adobe’s software either.
