Can anyone tell me why I'm being drawn to the new Pentax Optio W90?
(That 'site needs Flash, this one doesn't.)

Because you're dissatisfied with your Nikon and want something better.

Nick, you never cease to amaze me with your, quite frankly, laughable attempts at goading.

Whilst I feel I should agree with Nick, I do have to admit to secretly craving one of these as well.

I definitely can't help. Quite frankly I'm confused. Surely that thing will take way worse photos than whatever it is you currently use?!

Heh, I wasn't thinking of it as a replacement to my D3, more of an accompaniment.

Same here with the GF1 and pancake lens.

Obviously it's not a replacement. But what does it offer that your proper camera doesn't? I mean aside from it's size, which you could replicate in loads of better quality compacts surely.

Umm, you can safely take in underwater. Has an incredible macro function (focus only 1cm away from the lens) and that's about it I think. *shrug*

Wow. Can't a proper camera focus that close? A couple of compacts offer that. Even I know that with the stupid amount of research I've had to do lately. As for underwater, can you not get a case for yours?

Sorry man, don't mean to piss on your parade. Just figured if you're lucky enough to have a decent camera, the last thing you'd want is some sub-£200 POS "fun" camera.

1cm from the front of the lens? No. A lot of the compact cameras these days have a very enviable macro function.
Well, I say enviable, but I guess you only really envy that ability if you don't have a good macro lens, which I don't.
I do have my eye on one though, but it costs close to a grand.

Have you been to my Flickr Photostream lately?
If so you'll notice that I'm using my iPhone camera pretty much every day, which is more than I'm using my Nikon. (8+)

I want a more portable camera too. Just one to have with me twenty4-7.

Mark's Flickr stream is here.

My Flickr Photostream
I've only been posting pretty much every day over the past week in the Random Photo Thread in the Meeting Place. (8+)
