Post subject:  Developing projector slides

Hi all,

The Purple One has asked me to ask all of you a couple of questions:
Has anyone here ever developed projector slides using C41 (instead of E6)?
Has it worked?
Any tips?

Wondered if Alex may have at some point possibly?

Thanks very much,

Ben

Nope, never done C41 processing.
IIRC, you need a different chemistry (of course) and the temps and times need adjusting as well.

Did a bit of this back in the day - you know, somewhere around Photoshop 3... ;) Used to call it 'cross-processing' 'cos you're using E6 film processed in C41 chemistry, and vise versa. Results were a bit hit & miss if I remember - lots of experimentation required - but gave interesting results when it worked. Seem to remember it tends to over-process a bit, so best to under-expose initially.

Never processed my own C41 so can't advise there I'm afraid. Might be worth finding a decent lab (if they still exist of course) and asking if they'll cross-process?? Try Googling 'cross processing' as well of course - I'm sure you'll find plenty of info.

HTH, Pete.

Thanks guys,

Faye is the photography technician in the School of Art up here in Aber (they employ part time Masters students to do the jobs). One of the first years wants to try developing some, and Faye has some slides herself to develop and try out some stuff with. As long as they come out they'll be happy, they just don't want to come out with no image at all.

Thanks again guys :D
