I note with interest Sigma have a 1.4 30mm lens that looks quite attractive.

Just a general 'things you could buy with cash from the sale of a 450D' kind of direction.

I'm so glad I did a search before I started a "What kit do you own" thread... I hadn't seen this one.

I've got...

Nikon F65 and a Nikon F60 with various lenses and a tripod that I got for Christmas... I'll get the lens types and Tripod make when I get home, (if I remember)

I still haven't got my DSLR yet... but I will... one day, and hopefully sooner rather than later.

What lenses do you have for the film cameras? You may be able to use them on your new camera, but chances are no if you get the D5000.

Changed since I posted last.......

DSLR: Samsung GX20 + 2 batteries
P&S: Samsung WB500 + 2 batteries
Lens: 18-55mm Samsung D-Xenon
Lens: 70-300mm Tamron Macro 1:2
Lens: Sigma 50mm f/2.8 Macro
SD: 8GB Lexar Pro, 8GB Lexar Premium, 2GB Extreme III, 2GB Ultra II
Flash: 2 x Jessops 360AFD + Lightsphere II and Stofen diffusers
Bags: 2 x Crumpler + 1 Crumpler pouch for P&S
Filters: P type holder with ND2/4, grad, warming, 52mm & 67mm circular polarisers
Tripod: Giottos MTL9361B + MH5001 head

I want a Sigma 10-20mm (landscape/creative) and Tamron 28-75mm (everyday use) and get rid of the kit lens. Then I'd like to buy some 'proper' filters rather than the cheap ones I bought to play around with.

I've spoken to a few dealers who say it should be OK...

The lenses, (in the living room) are:

Nikon AF NIKKOR 28 - 100mm
Nikon AF NIKKOR 70 - 300mm

There are a couple more in the spare room, which I can't be bothered digging out at the moment, but these are my main two.

Apparently the D5000 has no internal motor for autofocus and so any lens you use must be AF-S from Nikon or equivalent from elsewhere, unless you prefer to manual focus.

One of the reasons I got a D90 over the D5000 was for this purpose, a little extra on the initial outlay meant I had more lenses available to me, even though I wasn't tied in to any legacy by not owning any Nikon gear to start with.

Everybody has to decide on the balance of what you want, what it has and what it costs, so your decisions are likely to be different to mine. But unless I'm confused with the lenses you have, am surprised that you were told they were compatible.

Of course you must bear in mind that I'm still fairly new to this malarky. :P ;)

Since Saturday:

Canon EOS 50D
Sigma 24-70 mm F/2.8 IF EX DG
Hoya HD UV Filter
Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod + 498RC2 Head + Extra mount plate

Canon PowerShot G9 (with a bit of a dust issue at the moment :( )

I should also have a remote release for the EOS arriving whenever Warehouse Express gets it in stock.
So, pretty much at the start of the DSLR adventure. It's exciting, or it will be once I start taking some photos.

I also have a FujiFilm 3D camera.

Some photos taken with it - you need red/cyan glasses as they are anaglyphs.

I checked how much the two lenses I had to hand are going for, and it's about £150 for the pair of them, so it might be easier to put the lot on eBay and start from scratch...Whaddayouthink?

John, my mate just upgraded his Nikon to a D5000 so if you've any specific questions to ask I'll pass them along to him.

Thanks Mark. I guess the main question would be is it worth trying to use my existing lenses with a new DSLR or would I be better selling the lot and starting from scratch?

Well he upgraded the body from a D40 and kept his existing lenses.

Does the fact that I don't have a DSLR, (the F65 is a film camera) make any difference? I realise that I'd probably have to use manual focus, and I think I might have answered my own question there but do you think it's worth keeping the lenses or just ditching them and buying some that are deisgned for a digital camera?
