I have two lenses and each came with a hood, apart from seeing how they attach I don't think I've ever shot with them on.

All the time for me. I do find it cuts flare a bit, and also it reassures me that when the clumsy oaf attached to the camera drops it it's one more piece of crumple zone between the front element and the concrete.

My 14-24mm has a hood that's permanently attached, so I have no choice but to use it.
On my other lens I do have the hood but I never seem to use it. It's not a conscious decision, I just always seem to forget to pack it. *shrug*

I've a couple of hoods for some of my lenses, and I've never used them.
Never felt the need, maybe I should give them a go. I'm rarely battling lens flare, AFAIK, though.

I always use the hoods, unless I've got the Cokin contraption on the front, which kind of doubles as a hood anyway.

I've got a couple of hoods, and I sometimes use them when it's sunny. And if I remember.

Ah yes. Good point, Heather. I take the hood off to use square filters. But as you say, that's a sort of hood.

All my lenses have hoods but I only tend to use then on longer focal lengths unless I'm using filters.

The hood supplied with my kit lens is particularly useless even at wide angle settings, I think it's in a bin somewhere.

I would say I use the hoods 90% of the time when I'm out and 0% of the time when I'm indoors.

I'm sure there are an infinite amount of options out there, but I just wanted something quick to find the general consensus. Otherwise I would have put one up for having a hood, never used it whilst shooting, but it is still attached to the lens by reverse mount. I kid myself into thinking that it; keeps dust off the moving parts of the barrel, looks better, is there when I need it, and extra protection for knocks and bangs.

I've tried this, but it just doesn't feel right when manually focussing. Now that I'm in the habit of auto-focussing maybe I'll give this method another airing and see how I get on with it now.

I wouldn't really call it a method. However, the zoom ring available to touch is still at least the same size as for focus.

FACT: they won't let you into Bluewater with a hood.

What is Bluewater, sounds like a shopping centre?
