I'm not wrong there is a growing minority of women at which Bile culture was made for oh and by the way men write a large proportion of this BS culture. Women have written done achived and created great things. Rosa parks- civil rights activist who inspired the montgomery bus boycott Margeret thatcher- who became british priminister JK rowling- Single mum to half a billion pound fortune for some of the most sucessful works of fiction in history. Cristina fernandez Sarah palin Oprah angela merkel I mean I could never be more insulted that you have made out that I was some misogynist when I was merely commenting on a growing culture of lack of substance and that self righteous sarcastic over tone It is a valid veiw that there is a gender orientated dumbing down and a capitalisation on the multiplier effect that has ensued as a result. | | | | |
eddie, the more I see, the more male culture is just as dumb as the popular female culture (if there is a clear definition between the two, which I'm not entirely convinced of). Look at the magazines produced for blokes - Nuts, Zoo, FHM, Maxim, Men's Health, any number of football mags. Hardly the higher echelons of respectability and erudite discussion are they? There are any number of web based gossip sites that cater to men as much to women (dealing with 'wardrobe malfunctions' etc.). I'm sure the tattle rags for women out number those aimed at men, but take a good look at the offerings for the male audience, and they're really not head and shoulders above the girls titles. And the less said about Sarah Palin being a progressive model for women, the better. The truth of the matter is not as clear cut, as usual, as you painted it, that's all.

I said what women have achieved and can not whether they should be a role model or not. Sarah palin is not what I would describe as a role model but as a woman who has and may go on to great (not good things however) things. Well football first of all serves purpose as culture, has highs, lows and is a very interesting sport, game on the technical side of it and various other aspects. As I stated there is a general dumbing down of culture but women have had much of this Bile culture aimed at them.

I don't think Prof would disagree with this - but his general point is that just as much of it is also aimed at men.

Yes but I would say to a lesser degree and is less effective. You don't get lads going around stating " oh yea, omg, she totaly like..." And surrounding there main interest around other peoples lives.

Eddie, but I again, I disagree. You do get lads standing about talking about 'Did you see the match last saturday? That (whatever startling feat of agility some overpaid 19 year old managed) was well wikkid innit blud.' I don't see the difference. Girls like to dress and emulate their trash mag heroines, boys like to look up to sporting or movie stars. There are magazines that cater to both. Young men in Saxos thinking they're the next Lewis Hamilton. Young guys kicking a ball about on saturday thinking they'll be the next Rooney. The kid and his band jamming in a basement, certain they're the next Libertines, if they can only find the audience. The media have always sold the youth dreams and idols. Perhaps now they're feeding off the product of the output to a greater degree, but the problem really isn't so simple as to be a single gender issue.

Playing sport is constructive. And over paid well that's just supply and demand. . with football your watching talent at its highest levels (regardless of how overpaid you think they are). Football isn't just about agility and aerobic abilities hence Usain Bolt being incapable of playing football, it requires alot of technical, mental and physical skills. Hence there being only about 200 british players capable of playing first team football in the premeir league and about 50 in regular first team action. Football, rugby and cricket is sport people of all ages, intelligence and cultures discuss it. The vast majority of people who reguarly go to the match (like I do) are never thick. Fact of the matter is that I am not interested in the lives of these footballers but the performance of them as players and another is that the celeb culture which is primarily recieving interest from women is only about other peoples lives and that is what gets me most. Basically footballers have talent (again regardless of how much they are paid) but people being constantly in the media eye and making millions just because they are dysfunctional lacks substance. I agree lads going about in Saxos (unlikely they're thinking that they're louis hamilton) more just thinking they're "hard" innit. Stupid lads is a rising issue aswell but the inflation is disproportionate as trash culture such as celeb culture is a mainly female provied phenomenon. lads goin about saying innit and yea blud is the gangster emulation as a result of popular culture promotion (again young underclass, chavy males are suseptable) But girls seem to be doing the " omg and she was like and I was like" across the class and social grouping spectrum.
