First of all who cares if the PS3 has done this for ages? A new feature is announced and PS3 fanboys rush to claim "my dick was already that big anyway". [LIFTED] off.

Secondly I've been plugging external storage into my Xbox (8GB memory stick) for ages. Not for game gaves and whatnot but for movie and audio stuff. My game saves all go on the Xbox HDD.

I still love the fact that people go on about the Xbox noise too. Its hilarious. If you install the game to HDD (you know, like how most PS3 games have mandatory installs) then the console is very quiet.

But you obviously have this incessant need to prove your console is 'better.' Why? Does it matter? Are you on the Sony payroll?

If you want to watch video clips they have to be in a folder called Video, it isn't able to see them otherwise.

Not true, just press triangle on the icon for the USB mass storage device and choose "display all". It'll even show you the hidden folders on the drive.

Yip, problem is it isn't immediately obvious... This whole thing of folders and file formats etc is just fcuking tragic in this day and age :(

Funny, everyone I know seems to be able to manage them on a computer OK. Do you have everything in one directory then?

You're reaching, frankly. In fact, you're bordering on trolling. The obvious fact is the PS3 has had, and will have until this update actually hits the net, much much better support for third party storage. That's just a fact. The 360 has it's good points, the PS3 has it's good points. This is one of the PS3's. Going to the bizarre level of arguing a feature isn't very good because you have to press one button on the controller first doesn't change that.

I'd advise you to stop digging. Or at least find some other hole.

MIne's not. Installs help a lot but the fans are still noisier than any other bit of kit in my living room by some margin. It's a very early model though and things have apparently improved a lot in that regard if you get one of the new ones.

Personally I've always considered the business practice of massively over-charging for HDDs was more of the issue than support for USB sticks. if they want to have their own drives, fine. I can see why you'd do that for QA and support purposes - the less models of drives you allow the less you have to test - but to do that then charge a massive premium on them over the parts cost is just inexcusable. It's fleecing the customer, no more and no less.

I agree the cost of HDDs for Xbox is shocking. I think I paid for my 120GB what you could get a Spinpoint F3 1TB for! The only saving grace for me is that I've yet to fill the measly 120GB I have now as I only 'install' my most played games and dont bother storing movies and audio on the Xbox. I'd love the option to install a big internal HDD though to not have any worries in the future.

That said it wont be too long before I get a PS3 anyway (yes, I'll be keeping the Xbox too). I was going to wait for GT5 but with Uncharted 2 and GOW3 I might have to put it foward a little ;)

Easy, tiger.

I'm only talking about folders/getting things to display on the PS3. I've had to tell quite a few people about the triangle button option to get AVI files to display/play on their PS3s when they inserted a USB stick, and it's a question that's appeared on many a forum.

As Matt says, it should be a bit more obvious; that's all anyone's saying.

My comment about the file formats was in general - I know full well the PS3 is continually updated in this sense and make good use of it. Indeed, I told my mate that a bunch of AVIs he had would play once he had one of the later updates installed...
