How many others think that this is partly an election gimmick? Also what are the odds that maternity benefits will improve now that his wife is pregnant? Or am I just cynical?

They lost a child last year so maybe they wanted a new baby at some point. Though when a politician is involved can you not suspect that they have other motives? To appeal to a certain demographic, working mums this time?

If my husband came to me and said

Let's get you knocked up Honey, it might make me more popular with the voters and it's traditional. We may have had a baby with terrible medical troubles, so this time, even though It'll make you simultaneously the most hormonally unstable and vulnerable you'll ever be, let's add a dose of "public spotlight" to the pregnancy as well. No Pressure!!

I think I'd give him a swift kick where the monkey hid the nuts.

No your not cynical your ridiculous.

Whilst as long as they two individuals are healthy there's a high likely hood of a child its not something you can schedule in.

I was watching the BBC News last night on BBC1 and they thought it had electioneering undertones about it. Though I expect its announcement before the announcing of the date of the election was also probably to avoid such speculation.

The pregnancy may not be a gimmick, but I do wonder how long before it becomes one.

The new Labour Party Slogan: Dave’s f*cked his wife. Don’t let him f*ck the country.
