I agree that innocent people being killed is a tragic situation in any scenario but according to the article the helicopter was only called in because these guys had pinned down a "team" of US soldiers.
There were at least 2 with what were definitely machine guns or rifles of some sort ("AK47s" according to the radio chatter) and one guy with an RPG.
If you're country is in the middle of a war and you are a photographer then don't walk in groups with the people shooting at the bad guys.
War is war, people are killed, innocent people unfortunately get in the way.
The guys in the helicopter had a decision to make in order to save the lives of the men they were there to support.
