If we had and form of proportional or other voting system, then none of the parties would ever end up with an outright majority and we'd end up with the kind of political horse-trading we're seeing now. The problem we have is that the parties in this country are too entrenched in their own political views that getting them to agree on anything is a minor miracle.
We'd be better off if we ditched the parties altogether and voted in a parliament full of people with no political affiliations at all - at least then they wouldn't be predjudiced by years of political indoctrination and ties to the unions/party donors etc.
Whatever happens, they'll always be those for it, those against it and those that don't give a s***.
