Apple's ARM-based A4 processor, the CPU that powers the iPad, will also power the next iPhone.

Some bright spark in Vietnam managed to get hold of a prototype of the upcoming handset and not only took snaps of the machine from all angles, but took the blighter to bits.

Yeah same here, but I doubt it will because of power? And possibly heat too.

How powerful is the iPad with a 1GHz A4? What sort of tasks can it perform that the current iPhone can't?

I suspect roughly equivalent to a 1GHz snapdragon, since they've got similar heritage.

Well it has to chuck around 4 times the amount of pixels in the iPad for a start...

Well from what I've read on Wikipedia the A4 uses the same CPU as the iPhone 3 GS (the ARM Cortex-A8). I would imagine it's got a far more powerful GPU, but I'm pretty surprised that the iPad/A4 uses the same CPU as the 3 GS, unless they're clocked differently of course.
