Some games will definitely benefit from an extra dimension. FPS would be one area that would benefit, as would some puzzle games but some games will add nothing by having an extra dimension. Also is this another way to charge extra for basically the same game? That I think is probably the real reason. They might be having problems selling games above £50 and so 3D might be the reason for breaking that price barrier.

I remember when you could get new computer games for £1.99 or £9.99 for one of the premium games. While I accept that the new games are considerably more expensive to make they are also sold internationally now so have greater chances of recouping their investment.

In theory the addition of the extra dimension in the game are probably already included because of the algorithms to scale distant buildings. So could be considerably cheaper to have a 3D version rather than 20% extra that movies have to bear. Though if they think that users will pay much more for the experience they may be disappointed.
