I don't find them annoying so long as the same phrases or words aren't being repeated, you know, those people that keep saying 'Babe' over and over again - it's fcuking cringeworthy

Whether or not I am annoyed depends purely on how important the conversation is. If somebody talks sh*t about nothing and I can't escape (e.g. in a train) I feel like I need to murder somebody. But if there is point to a conversation and I feel it is important I don't care and I switch off completely regardless of how boring the subject is.

The most annoying thing in my life right now is a colleague in my office, who talks to his two year old daughter in child's voice about things children talk when she phones him. I immediately go and leave my desk or put my headphones on otherwise there will be blood

My "big boss" sits two desks away from me and he talks about boring stuff (financial accounting) all day long on his conference calls but I don't mind at all. I know it is important and I just block it in my head..

I think it's about how imposing it is.

Personally, I can ignore other people on their mobile phones, so long as they're not loud and obnoxious. I hate the chav on the train who shouts down his phone loud enough that the entire carriage can hear what he is saying.

I agree with all of you.

My boss (the head of IT) sits at her desk all day and chats/laughs on the phone. It seems to be all she ever does.

She came in after xmas and told this big long story about how xmas day had gone all wrong with her son getting sick and her mother getting drunk etc... and then every new person that came into the office got the full story again. Then anyone who called on the phone got the same story AGAIN!

It happens with all things she does.

Gets very annoying after a while. That's why I asked if I can take my iPod into work so I just stick my earphones in now :D

I remember a comedian doing a joke about being on a train and deliberately talking about the fleas that the whole family have from the dog, "Little buggers can jump 6ft" It does create an exclusion zone around him. :D
