I would always prefer a proper textbook over an electronic one.

One reason is that with a paper book that you have read a lot you begin to learn where things are in the book and can flick to them quickly.

i.e. a particular bit of sample code or something.

If it isn't indexed then you're stuck flicking through page after page on a kindle.

if you had all your textbooks on one device, you couldnt have multiple ones open at the same time :/

but you would have a search function, thatd be convenient :)

Yes books can have that advantage, though it depends what you need. Some subjects are more conducive to eBook layout. I think that the iPad will make a great way to keep manuals. Especially with a dock and in colour, they will be great for software manuals.
