We have this mess because they thought of themselves as box office stars, eg Lembit Opik and Boris Johnson. Blair definitely thought of himself along those lines. As for the questioning of the PM it is so closed down in terms of what they will answer that it is almost pointless.

Can we please, please just have sober, thoughtful Parliamentary debate rather than pointless one-liners and drivel (such as that spouted in PMQs) which is designed just to grab column inches.

Respectable newspapers ( :lol:

) will report Parliamentary business, regardless of how "punchy" (or otherwise) it is.

Not just PMQ where they ask easy questions, to give the PM a chance to burn up the clock as it were. Especially when the faecal matter is flying.

I like the punch and judy politics stop trying to neutralise everything. You don't need straight answers mainly because you can discern what they are likely hiding anyway.

Sometimes they blatently avoid answers, however some of the time is just because of a question that if you said yes to would incriminate you.

sometimes a good insult says something a lot better and a lot quicker than if you were to answer it in a long drawn out arguement.
