Oh, dear. I fear for my local bus service at that rate. I’m not sure if there are times when it is profitable. It’s certainly pretty costly already.

It will be rural buses that suffer most. Small towns and villages with interconnecting bus routes could be closed as a result of this.

Again, as with the increase in rail fares, how is this going to help the "green" agenda they're trying so hard to promote?

Oh that was abandoned as soon as the election was over. It became an aspiration.

I believe it was a former Conservative Prime Minister who said 'Anyone riding a bus over the the age of 25 should consider themselves a failure'.
Conservatives don't like public transport. Never have.

i believe that all public funding to support private enterprise should stop if a private enterprise can not run a private business without public funding then that private business/enterprise should cease to exist and a public/nationalised system put in place
this nationalised public service may have or be allowed to have private management but the service(s) that are required should be owned by us the population that way if they are not run correctly and properly for us then they (whoever) get voted out at a general election …

That could have been Thatcher. The problem is that while the Conservatives may hate public transport, its demise will drive up the costs of employing staff and reduce their profits. Typical short sighted Conservative thinking.

Thatcher and her lackey Tebbit only required you to a have a bicycle, no other form of public transport involved …

Without public transport the government would have a far great congestion problem, the poor would only be able to find jobs within walking or cycling distance, and that would devastate many businesses whose staff commute in.

thank god for that far thinking visionary Labour government of the last 13 years that ensured a fair and equitable public transport sytem thats in place now... oh sorry I must have been in another dimension. Lets not ignore the fact that the previous governmnet stood by and let and in some cases encouraged the stranglehold of two companies over the public transport over the majority of the country.

Yes allowing the entire country be controlled by two private companies is a huge mistake. If you are going to have it controlled by so few players they should be publicly owned.
