And Southampton Council, Hants, has agreed to install more lights at the citys Millbrook roundabout to help traffic flow to a newly-built rubbish dump nearby.
Thirty sets of lights were installed two years using more than £2.5 million pounds of taxpayers money and since then the number has nearly doubled.
The busy roundabout beneath the Millbrook flyover takes motorists from the M27 motorway to the M271 into Southampton.
In addition motorists must also cope with ten toucan crossings at the roundabout's five approaches and a maze of cycle lanes.
The record-breaking lights were installed by Southampton Transport chiefs after a three-week consultation period with local businesses, motorists and residents.
The heavily-industrialised surrounding area is home to a number of vehicle dealerships, including Volvo and fast food chains including KFC on the Millbrook Trading Estate.
The other side of the roundabout, which also links onto the busy A33 and A35, has some residential areas.
But despite hundreds of people using the area on a daily basis, footfall remains low as most employees in the area drive to work.
Council plans to install yet more traffic lights have been criticise by motorists.

It is obvious that roads are designed by people who don't drive

It's been improved a little now, but I remember the first time I went to Oxford after they bus-laned the top of Botley Road. The signs were very clear, and directed you to a point where it was no right or left turn, and only buses could go forwards...

Locally, they put "traffic calming" near the primary school. It was over due, but the way they did it was utterly retarded. You now have to go on the wrong side of the road at a blind bend. As a direct result of these what these morons did, where there were previously no accidents in over 30 years there have now been 3 that I've witnessed in the last six months.

Another local roundabout (Sixfields) was built with over 9000 sets of traffic lights. The result? People saw the light go green and drove on, not noticing the red light a few feet away. A few million pounds of our money later, there are now only a few hundred lights. Although... they've made up for it by sticking lights on the dual carriage way where people still do 70mph, which will inevitably lead to a side-on collision which will kill or seriously injure someone.

If I can see it coming, why can't they??? Learn to F*cking drive before you start designing road layouts!!

Fixed for you.

Round where I live, one council filled in the lay-bys at bus stops so now buses can't pull off the road at stops. Result: traffic jams
Also they keep putting crossings on roundabouts. Result: traffic jams.

Idiots.

Near my parent's house, there's a spot where the M61 goes over a standard road, so there's basically a bridge.

The local council decided to put one of those 'traffic calming measure' chicanes inside the bridge. Result? On a sunny day, the chicane block was effectively invisible to oncoming traffic due to being completely in shadow and within a couple of weeks several cars had piled into it, resulting in damage to the structure and also to tyres/suspension/bodywork etc. Three weeks after the third crash (and presumably soon after the solicitor's letter arrived at the council planning department's inbox), they came by, dug the chicane up and put the road back the way it was before.

Utter, utter idiots.

Why should a pedestrian who wants to go straight across a junction have to go out of their way to keep crossings away from junctions?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Because it significantly increases the chances of them making it to their destination (assuming their destination isn't casualty).
