Oh dear. There's no stopping it now. Sony did a good job of getting the much talked-about PS3 hacking device, PSJailbreak, its first banning, but now hackers have got it running on mobile phones.

Unbelievably, crafty coders have found a way to make smart phones such as the Nokia N900 and the Palm Pre do the same job as that ridiculously expensive USB stick the original PSJailbreak hackers were selling.

It looks like a simple app that runs on the phone while it's tethered to PS3 via a USB cable, enabling the same "homebrew" and "backup" capabilities as the original PSJailbreak. And this will inevitably find itself ported to several other phone models in the coming weeks.

That's it for Sony's fight against its use, then, but be warned: while they can't stop you getting it, it's claimed they can detect its use. And it's a big PSN ban hammer for you if you're caught. Geddit?

Hmm, not sure if I was getting free games I'd care too much about missing out on PSN :?

This will mean that in future the software can be sold via appstores which can be moved around very fast if necessary to avoid the Sony lawyers.

Something tells me that applications that are illegal in the European Union, and quite possibly illegal in the United States (DMCA) won't make it through an app. approval process.

You'd probably have to source them yourself and install them via others means (which may or may not require "jail-breaking" or rooting, depending on your OS).

They would never get accepted on any legal app store. Though via online jail breaking app stores they could be sold.

You don't need a rooted phone to install non signed Android apps

Er yes, hence my comment "depending on your OS".

Palm/WebOS, no rooting needed, WM no rooting needed, Android needs no rooting, only thing needing rooting is iPhone, so it's more iOS dependent than depending on your OS in general
