Yes until after the next election. Leaving the decision to someone else. Also won't they have to do another defence review to see if they need it in 2015?

Makes sense. Cancel it and save the cash without actually cancelling it. Hopefully that will leave money for the carriers.

It may not mean that Trident is cancelled. They could still cancel the carriers.

Postponing the decision is actually worse than cancelling, or at least it could be. Given inflation in military procurement, if 'we' decide to start building Trident II in say three years, the contract costs will actually be higher than if 'we' decide to build it now. Probably by a couple of billion over the life of the project. They should either give it the go ahead or cancel it, faffing about so they don't have to be seen to be spending the money isn't fooling anyone.

Yes but they are mentioning that one carrier will be downgraded to a helicopter carrier because they cannot afford the aircraft on both.
