Diplomatic Immunity, AFAIK, means you would almost never get arrested for anything.

IIRC, I read that the Jackal once had a couple of holdalls containing machine pistols, money and God knows what else at an airport, only to be waved on because he had diplomatic immunity from whichever state was backing him that month

Well normally a hots government has to approve of the person being sent. Imagine if we sent Gary Glitter as embassy staff to Vietnam. they can refuse him. Though if while there he is caught molesting someone he can be arrested, but once he has declared that he had diplomatic immunity then the host nation could do nothing, Though they could ask the ambassador to remove diplomatic immunity or remove him themselves. Only the diplopmatic pouches are supposed to be sacrosanct, but with a lot of airport scanners I would imagine many are secretly scanned if given the opportunity.

True, but diplomats can be booted out of the country. If that happens it's often major news and they may well face sanctions in their own country (depending where they're from).

Is it even legal to carry children in the back of one of those?
