Lancashire Police is considering axing all 427 police community support officers (PCSOs) from its force.

All PCSOs have been told their jobs could go by March 2011 amid increased uncertainty over future funding.

The force pays for their roles through a grant from central government or from local councils - which it said it could no longer rely on.

What a mess. But the eradication of policing on the cheap is probably a good thing overall. If crime increases which I think it might with drugs still a major problem and the economy a mess crime generally increases. Lets see what will actually happen.

I think if the costs saved on pcsos was put into proper olicing then I'd be mre enthusiastic.

I think that they will be. Don't for get that the government are trying to cut police paper work as well. As long as it does not lead to mistrials or unlawful convictions then I think that this is a good thing.
