Seems that there are a lot of folk out there keen to use the Kinect hardware for anything but a XBox 360 controller.

and Microsoft aren’t too happy about it.

There is a lot of activity surrounding it.

It's looking like those are the sort of people M$ should have hired - maybe they can sort out the fact you need six foot of space and deal with the lag. Maybe even a good game

:? Why not just say "Well done, very imaginative!" and then watch as you sell more than you would otherwise do if you focus only on the X360 audience?
Not entirely following the logic.

Couldn't agree more. BBC Click reviewed it and for an organisation firmly up Microsoft's backside, they seemed rather unimpressed by it. Inaccurate, laggy and without any games worth playing.

In all honesty, MS need to sell it to any audience willing to take it on.

But surely with these drivers, MS will stand a chance of selling more.

Which might piss them off if they're selling it at a loss (e.g. See Sony and the Other OS debacle).

It might make more sense to develop better drivers and allow them to be used on other devices and sell games for those systems as well.

Microsoft have a point, he has written a new driver from the ground up, you don't need to tamper with the device and he hasn't modified the XBox 360 driver, so no, he hasn't hacked the Kinect. In that respect, Microsoft are correct and PC World are wrong.

Microsoft might not be happy about it, but in the statement, they didn't deny its existence, they just pointed out that nobody had hacked the hardware or the drivers, correcting PC World's sensationalistic title of the article... :?

+1. It demonstrates the sloppy journalism everywhere nowadays.
