Microsoft is celebrating this week, after new stats show Windows 7 is rapidly increasing its presence on the PC market.

Windows 7 has now nabbed 25 per cent of the PC market, with Windows XP slipping to 50 per cent.

The new stats are from Statscounter.com and its inevitable that Windows 7 adoption will just keep growing.

All systems are go

It's estimated that Windows 7 will reach 300 million licenses by the end of the year, having sold over 240 million back in October.

Add to this the fact that 93 per cent of all new PCs will have Windows 7 pre-installed on a whopping 93 per cent of all new PCs.

I've got that on my netbook but 7 on my system. I much prefer 7 now.

Actually, now after all of the updates I actually prefer Vista on the downstairs PC.

XP was good but time has moved on. Support will end in 2014 and new applications may not support XP beyond 2012, W7 is a fine replacement (Especially as I bought it for £45 on pre-order ;) ).

There's nothing about the OSs that came after XP that means I could justify buying them - in fact, with me mostly using a netbook, a lot of tests seem to suggest I'm generally better off with XP over 7, personally :)

On those rare occasions I need Windows, Vista is fine. Certainly not paying £150 to patch it.
