From 1 February Currys and PC World will be offering the Angry Birds game for download free by accessing the Intel AppUp Center from portals at www.currys.co.uk/appstore or www.pcworld.co.uk/appstore.

The Intel AppUp Center is a service that allows Windows PC users to browse a catalogue of applications for purchase or download to their laptop or PC. Apps cover categories including social, education, entertainment, games and communications. You simply download a light desktop widget, then browse through the apps to make a purchase or free download. Apple Max OS X devices are not supported by AppUp.

Previously available only for mobile devices, Angry Birds is now available for Windows users via the Intel AppUp Center, and those who access the center via PC World or Currys will be able to get it free throughout February, as long as stocks last. Currently, Angry Birds costs £3.99 from Intel AppUp.

Gary Hearns, Senior Catagory Manager said: “We are really excited to be giving away free copies of Angry Birds for use on netbooks, laptops and desktops– we expect them to fly so recommend gamers get in there quick to get their copy.”

With Angry Birds I'm getting the texture error mentioned in the reviews on my netbook, and the software itself is just crap in every way. Uninstalling...

So unlike the Mac App store, that just works.

I have a feeling Angry Birds is a way to keep the slaves happy and distracted.

No. I don't actually have any games here at all.

I'm not sure it would hold any appeal for me on anything but a handheld touch screen device. That said, I fairly quickly lost interest in it on my iPhone.
