Most expensive deals won't face charges or traffic management for exceeding limit
Carrie-Ann Skinner

BT has revealed it is removing its fair usage download policy for Total Broadband Option 3 and Infinity Option 2 customers from April.

The move by the ISP means web users on these broadband packages can download or stream as much as they want without worrying that exceeding the limit will result in charges or their speed being restricted.

At present, downloads are capped at 300GB.

"As BT continues to invest in the network and network bandwidth we can now remove these restrictions and ensure the experience of the wider customer base," said Mayuresh Thavapalan, general manager of Consumer Broadband, BT Retail.

Meanwhile, those on BT Total Broadband Option 1&2 and BT Infinity Option 1 will not be subject to traffic management but will still be charged for exceeding the fair usage policy.

However, BT revealed it will still implement traffic management policies that will restrict usage "when the network is busy".

It was too late for me to be tempted. As I have moved to a non cabled area I opted for Sky's Unlimited package for £15, which is great since I can get up to 20 Mbits as I only live 200 yards from the exchange.
