Not really. How can he do his job when he has this over his head. He is very lucky he is not on remind like any other suspect.

Also, if found guilty his conduct since the incident will no doubt come under scrutiny, and it could open the Met up for legal action from others who have been in contact with him (for either fair or unfair reasons). It seems best all round if he’s suspended pending the outcome of the trial.

I'm not sure whether or not he's been working since the incident. I seem to recall that he was off work on "sick leave" after he was identified as the officer involved.
I don't really think that remanding him in custody is appropriate. He's unlikely to abscond and will be regarded as a safe bet.
I'd be very surprised if he wasn't convicted and I'd be even more surprised if the sentence was in excess of 2 years. We will see.
Of course, a spanner might be thrown into the works in so far as a criminal case jury may eventually disagree with the coroners jury and acquit him.
When all's said and done though he has to live with that man's death on his conscience. I'd sleep more easily though if I thought he felt contrite rather than attempting to hide the truth, as I believe he did from the accounts I read if the inquest, from that jury.

Chances are that the jury will convict but he can still get off with a minimal sentence.

I hope he gets a life sentence, with 6 years+ inside.
