I bought an album this week. It's not some old obscure thing, it was published in May. It was 7.99 on iTunes. The CD on Amazon was 23.99. Burlimey.
(by the way, is it just me who finds 'albums' suddenly sounds rather anachronistic?)

Gotta know, what was the album? I still say and think 'album' without hesitation, but then I don't download much

'5' by a band called LambIt's only 23.16 now, bargain! Well so do I, just as soon as I typed it it felt like going into HMV and asking for a gramophone. Jon

Heh, well HMV still sell the odd LP I think it's kinda funny that they dedicate more space to video games than they do music nowadays... I doubt I'd miss the place too much if it disappeared tomorrow, and I hate thinking that about any sort of music store really

That applies to movie downloads as well. I think that the Blu ray upgrade might be confusing the matter. Many will not upgrade their DVD collections to Blu ray like they did when they upgraded from VHS. I do think that there could even be an element for games downloads. I avoid games unless from a reputable download source because of viruses. Though if the price is right then I will buy download games. So I like the Mac App store for games.

I used to use Limewire mainly because I'd be on a say a uni computer doing some work and wanted some music to listen to. Didn't want to drag around CDs and it was before mp3 players could hold more than 128MB of music.

But hasn't that now been replaced by Spotify? It would do pretty much all that you wanted then, now. It does show that technology moves on and that the music industry have missed the point of people trying music out this way. I did not use Limewire mainly because of legal worries but it also cut my consumption of music down considerably.

It used to be fun trying to get hold of obscure, discontinued or rare import music via the file sharing networks. You could make friends swapping what you had and chatting about it. Bloody bittorrent took all the magic out of it; nobody talks to you on a torrent especially when it's done in 10 seconds flat! Luckily we have things like last.fm and youtube these days. I can now play stuff instantly on my phone wherever I am which might have taken weeks to track down before. Although my most recent music downloads have come from Soundcloud - totally legal I should add. Specific example; not suitable if you're feeling delicate: http://soundcloud.com/natalie-pryceIf Nick Cave and PJ Harvey had a love child, with Tom Waits as the god father - that could be her. If she ever tours south of the border, I'll pay to see her.

He would have been “off message” and “previously head of digital at EMI” somewhat sooner if he had.

He might have been able to stem some of the FAIL by not spending a fortune on lawyers
