Aren't those normally launched off enormous trucks etc? Certainly wouldn't be the first time we lost kit mysteriously... ;)

Patriots? More than that. You need several trucks to launch the thing. The launch control - called the 'engagement control station' is a cabin full of high tech gear, the launchers go on the back of a lorry and are basically several tubes that the missiles launch out of. You also have a separate radar transceiver that's a fairly big lump of kit on it's own. Patriot is not a small weapon. But I'm not entirely sure how much use they'd be without the ECS and the radar. You could fire one off, but I doubt it'd hit anything - you'd just be using it as a very large dumb rocket.

And also they are, as far as I know, not ours. I don't recall us ever saying we'd bought any from the yanks. They've sold them to quite a few people though. The obvious candidate is probably Egypt - a country in turmoil is always easiest to disappear high tech kit from - but you never know, the Greeks could be taking an unconventional route to clearing their debts. The yanks will be able to find out fairly quickly who sold them on though - kit like that is going to be fingerprinted so they know where each one goes.

The slightly worrying thing is South Koreas has some. And they're rather useful for knocking short/medium range ballistic missiles down. Is this an attempt to upscale their supply without anyone noticing?

I was thinking of what's alleged to have gone on at US bases here down the years, but then I was being facetious to start with :)

If they were I'd expect them to ship them straight from the USA without any stops along the way.

If they were bound for China, that wouldn't surprise me. They may not be able to use them, but they seem to be quite adept at reverse-engineering stuff. Admittedly, 69 of them is a bit of overkill if all you want to do is copy them.
