I think you're vastly over-estimating how good public sector pension schemes will be in the future.

I do know (with a rough calculation) that my wifes pension if she continues to teach and retires at 60 will be approx 28K under the new proposals, which isnt too bad.

Wow. Darn sight better than mine, I can tell you that. And I won't be retiring at 60 chances are either.
