If the price is between £199 and £249, it will take a large slice of the market. There are many who would like an iPad but cannot afford it. The cannibalisation will be significant of iPod Touches.

I think it's interesting Apple were very much selling up the iPod Touch almost as a 'camera that also does iOS stuff' at the last launch. They spent a lot of timing talking about photos & video recording, plus there's that wacky strap thing they've fitted to it. May have been them trying to reposition the Touch as 'the thing you carry round with you' away from where the iPad mini is going to be.

Hmm.. the base spec iPod touch has 32Gb of storage and costs £249. if Apple are going to undercut that with the iPad mini, I expect it's going to have much less storage and, as you say, not have a retina screen. 8Gb of storage with an 'old iPad' 1024 * 768 screen for £199?

I was thinking I could use them around the house in place of radios or TV. One in the kitchen could replace a TV and radio, even if you do not use it for anything else.

A 7" screen can't really replace a TV. I do use a docked iPod rather than a radio in the kitchen though.

I alone use the iPad so it can be used as a replacement TV. I can stick it up on a shelf, close to eye line while doing other things, perfect for a small kitchen.

My iPhone 5 is still in pristine condition so I am not worried about the scratching issue but I am very careful with it.
