The other stuff is printing. Fair enough for leaflets and so on, but business cards? Aren't these supplied from a central source in London? Nope. He gets them printed down the road from where I live. I suppose you could argue it's helping local businesses by keeping them in work, but why are they a claimable expense?

Well, mine ain’t supporting the local community. His printing is done in Kent.

Is claiming for tax advice allowed? I remember some fuss about Mr Darling and his tax advice charges.

Right - I’m going to be looking for mine. He’s a Tory, so there should be some curios there.

Well, he’s claimed for some light fittings, but I’ll give him credit - he used a shop that was running a 10% off promotion when he bought them. Mind you, living in Chelmsford, does he need a second home? London is less than an hour by train.

Something out of Private Eye that I found absolutely delicious:

Harriet Harman, on the Beeb March 1st wrote:
"Sir Fred Goodwin should not count on being £650,000 a year better off. It's a huge amount of money for nothing. The Prime Minister has made it clear that it is unacceptable and the government will take action."

Interviewer: "But what action can the government take? Sir Fred has said that it's his contractual right."

Harman: "I don't want to go into all the details of what methods might be taken. But Sir Fred should not be counting on this. It might be enfoceable in a court of law, but it is not acceptable in the court if public opinion, and that's where the government steps in."

Harriet Harman, on the Beeb May 8th wrote:
"People have claimed in good faith under the system. MPs make the claim under the system and it's for the House of Commons fees office to decide whether it comes within the rules. MPs make their claims under the rules and the money is paid out only if they are satidfied that the claim is within the rules."

Hypocrisy FTW!!

Police to investigate MP expenses

Scotland Yard has decided to launch an investigation into the alleged misuse of expenses by a small number of MPs and Peers, the BBC has learned.

It follows a public outcry about the way many MPs had been using their second homes expenses.

Since the scandal broke, several MPs have announced they will be stepping down at the next election.

Police say officers from their economic and specialist crime command will conduct the investigation.

What you've spotted on expenses...

Parliament has published all MPs expenses dating back four years, albeit with many bits blacked out for "security" or "privacy" reasons. Here are some of the eye-catching new details you have spotted and emailed us about, and which we have put to MPs:

This makes a fun read :D
