Yep, he probably would have done better than Brown, given Brown had as much electoral nouse as a paperweight. He'd still have lost though, so he'd still have pushed off to the lecture circuit. So it makes feck all difference.

I doubt whether he would have done much better. The economy was in free fall because of the banking crisis, and Brown failed to take his opportunity to get re-elected in 2008 before things got really bad. He held on too long and paid the price. I doubt that Blair would have done that much better, the anti Blair feelings because of the war were still there and would have been continued until he was out.
